Girls Heart Books Tours Blog Stop: Witch Weigh

Welcome, Girls Heart Books Tours and Caroline Michelson! I’m so happy to be able to participate in the blog tour. Welcome, welcome. Make yourself at home. I was given the honorary privilege of receiving a copy for review. Thank you so much! Let’s get started!

Witch Weigh
By Caroline Mickelson
Publication Date: April 24, 2012   Novella length -  30K word paranormal romantic comedy
Tessa Von Hellengaard is a real witch. Magical spells aside, she’s snarky and selfish, and the other witches in her silent spell coven are fed up with her. Their plan to reform Tessa involves taking away her magic, saddling her with one hundred extra pounds, and sending her to a weight loss spa. For good measure they call in Liam Kennedy, a charming and sexy fairy godfather, to teach her some manners. Desperate to regain her magic and determined to shed the weight, Tessa soon realizes that protecting her heart from Liam will prove to be her greatest challenge.

The environment is a major aspect of the novella. It’s well tuned for what it’s used for and there’s no loss of integrity in its description. There are sections where the descriptions aren’t superbly detailed, but it doesn’t withdraw from the short tale being told.

Tess is an interesting character. She’s true to the word “witch” and has no problem enforcing that to her will. What’s certainly a perfect character flaw is that she doesn’t see herself that way. She has a justification for just about everything. Because of the “she is never in the wrong” demeanor there are times when she’s quiet annoying.

Tess’s counterpart Liam is all yummy, yummy. He is a perfect fairy godmother though in my opinion perhaps a bit too quick to forgive Tess. He’s extremely good natured and for the most part unflaggingly patient. It’s almost a requirement when dealing with Tess.

The story moves rather quickly.  Because of the short length of the novella there are times when it feels like it’s being rushed or certain aspects are being glossed over. However, it was still enjoyable. Certainly a recommended read for romance readers.

My Rating:
